Diner food, jukebox tunes, and fairly quick service. This place is a traditional stop for us when doing a road trip down hwy 17. Our go to dish is the pastrami burger .
Time to grub!! Chili cheese fries - Very yummy! The chili was delicious and the onion added a nice extra flavor. Patty melt - A classic dish but it was a little dry, so I probably should've put some ketchup. This paired very well with the chili cheese fries though. Neapolitan milkshake - Easily one of the best milkshakes I've ever had! It was creamy and tasted absolutely delicious. Service was amazing and the diner ambiance made our brunch very enjoyable!
Stumbled across this place one morning on the way to Santa Cruz for fishing. Our usual spot hadn't gotten its breakfast act together by 7:10, so we were happy to see the sign. Server was friendly, great omelet, French toast, and traditional bacon and eggs with huge portions, great diner coffee. We will be back. Wish it was closer to San Jose.
Want a hearty breakfast diner-style in Scotts Valley? Head to Chubby's Diner (yes, the name says it all)! Great main dish selection, plus all the yummy fixings - potatoes (grilled or hash), and toast! Indoor and outdoor seating is available, and it's popular with locals, as well as people in construction and the trades (always a good sign)! The server was absolutely sweet, and got to meet the chef (owner's son) to give a thumbs up!
Our great local Scotts Valley diner has closed as of May 1 2022. Owners of the mall that the new Target is going in wanted a more fancy place to eat and most current mall renters are on a month to month lease. Probably gave them a big rent increase? You would think the owner of Chubby's would have put a sign on the stripped out restaurant window/door with a thank you note for all the loyal past customers all these years and tell people he has another semi new place in Watsonville CA called the 'Farmhouse'. So many people are going by wanting to eat at Chubby's and are shocked that place is closed. I am sure Chubby's new this was coming months ago and they did not tell their customers about the closing. They missed out on all the locals that would have come in to eat for the last time. Just like Mollies in Scotts Valley now replaced by a near empty expensive Italian restaurant with white bright florescent lights Chubby's has left us without a warning or notice. The few other breakfast/lunch places in Scotts Valley are so lame compared to the now gone Chubby's. We will miss Chubby's thick shakes and oversize burgers. Let's hope with the outcry from Scotts Valley food people maybe Chubby's will find another place to open in the area. I doubt It as I think the owner just will run the one place in Watsonville. Many rumors are going around on what will go in the old small Chubby's spot . A Johnny Rockets, Perko's, Five Guys , In & Out Burgers, Waffle House who knows? Please not another Pizza place!
